Chief Timothy Suokko has been using Operator XR at Dublin Police Department for two years. We caught him on the stand at IACP 2026 and asked what keeps a small agency coming back to it.
His answer came down to two things. Cost - his officers train daily for a fraction of what that training used to cost the department. And how quickly people pick it up. He’d recently trained an officer from the Sheriff’s Office, which shares the system, and had him running it unsupervised in about two hours.
“I got him through it in probably 2 hours worth of training and he was running the thing on his own.”
How long does it take to train an officer to use an Operator XR system?
About two hours to independent operation, based on Chief Suoco’s experience training a neighbouring agency’s officer.
Can small agencies share a system?
Yes. Dublin PD shares its system with the local Sheriff’s Office, which splits the cost across both agencies.
